UBICORDER
The Ubicorder is a mobile, location and orientation aware device that enables users to browse and interact with real-time data from sensor networks. The Ubicorder incorporates EDITY, an event definition and identification system, that allows users to graphically define rules for translating sensor data to higher order and potentially more meaningful events. These rules can be recursively combined to form a more expressive and robust vocabulary for detecting real-world phenomena, allowing users to script higher level and relevant responses to distributed sensor stimuli. The Ubicorder's mobile, handheld form-factor enables users to easily bring the device to the phenomena of interest, hence simultaneously observe or cause real-world stimuli and manipulate in-situ the event detection rules easily using its graphical interface. In a first use-user study, both expert and novice users were able to quickly create effective rules for detecting complex physical phenomena.
