Example Applications
We're still figuring out exactly what Crossreality means, so we think it's useful for everyone to collect projects that they think fit the description and post them here. The more examples the better! We'll probably want to put them into different groups as we get enough of them.
- Stiff People's League - This was a project by Sociable Media here at the lab. It was about exploring how virtual and real participants could interact through a physical interface. We were also interested in the asymmetry of the interface; virtual participants and real participants had very different agency in the virtual space and so played different roles in the game.
- Immersive Spaces - From Rivers Run Red, this system bridges the desktop environment, web, and Second Life. It's a shipping product, so it's an interesting case study in what can be down now.
- Thunderwire - An audio-only connected media space.
- Smart RFLib (ETH) - Instrumented a library with RF sensors. Used Second Life as an output layer for visualizing the position of books in real time.(see also)
- The Mixed Reality Lab at NUS has lots of interesting projects. More on the AR side, but some are more interaction oriented. (these videos are an interesting talking point - how do we want to see information about the virtual world?)
- Mogi is a virtual item collecting game. Users on the web can direct users out in the environment towards nearby items.
- Plunder and Shark Runners are two games from Area/Code that have a sort of virtual layer on top of physical space.
- Bluegrass is a task-specific virtual world for collaborating around code development. Developed at IBM Research.
