Technical Resources

From Emerging Technologies in Location-Aware Computing

Sensor data sources

The sensor networks used by DoppelLab will also be useful for developing context- and location-aware applications. This page on the DoppelLab wiki lists the available data and provides some information about accessing the data.

Atom platforms

We have many Atom N450 development boards available for prototyping applications that need embedded computers. Intel provides detailed information about these platforms, including technical specifications, schematics, firmware, etc.

They run Ubuntu Linux particularly well. They'll also run Windows. I like Arch Linux as a lighter-weight alternative.

Radio platforms

Information about the software and hardware for my AT86RF230/1-based system is available here, including source code and examples. The corresponding Python library that communicates with the USB transceiver hardware is here. (Links require registration for access; register and I can add you to the projects to access code/documentation.)

The system does not yet support RSSI/ranging, but these features are coming soon. Communication currently works well.
